Award Detail Information
Name | John Scarsbrook Memorial Endowment Bursary |
---|---|
Description | John Scarsbrook passed away in June 2005. He was the oldest active dental person in Prince George and was affectionately known as "The Don" because of his immense influence on the dental community of Prince George. John was a Registered Dental Technician who came to Prince George in the 1960's via Vancouver from his humble origins in World War 2 England. Despite a lack of formal education and a later-proven dyslexic condition, John became an outstanding dental technician, an astute businessman, and a leader in the community. In 1981 he was involved in a vehicle accident that left him a quadriplegic. From his wheelchair and bed he continued to run his business, help his friends, and control the comings and goings of the Prince George dental community for some twenty years. John's lab, Fine Arts, continues to support the College of New Caledonia and its dental students at every opportunity. This bursary was provided by his many friends and colleagues, especially in the dental community, and at his wife's request will go to the "most-improved" student in the dental program. |
