| Name |
Rio Tinto Endowment Bursary |
| Description |
Rio Tinto has established this award in recognition of the Cheslatta Carrier Nation members, who worked so diligently to bring about a historical land transfer agreement. In August 2011 a dream became a reality when Rio Tinto transferred 12,000 acres of land to the Cheslatta Carrier Nation. These lands included the return of reserve land alienated during the original building of the Kitimat/Kemano project in the early 1950s, and non-reserve lands within the Cheslatta Carrier Nation traditional territories. It is to honour those members' dedication and spirit in the 10 years of discussion towards making a positive difference for their people that Rio Tinto has established this award to assist First Nations students in advancing their educational and employment skills to help them make a difference in their lives and those around them. |
