Name Shakti Nandan Sharma Memorial Bursary
Description In recognition of the depth of character it takes to be dedicated to academic success, this bursary is dedicated to support a student with unmet financial need that also has high personal standards for their academic achievement. Of those applicants with unmet financial need the student with the highest GPA will be selected for the Shakti Nandan Sharma Memorial Bursary. On November 14th, 1961, with only $8 in his pocket, Shakti Nandan Sharma, or Papa Ji to his family, arrived in Prince George as one of the first pioneers of Indian origin. By 1962, Papa Ji began a very prosperous career working as the Accountant at a leading construction company of the era that built hundreds of apartments and homes in the city. He truly valued education and community engagement for himself and others, maintaining a razor-sharp memory, and an ability to perform complex calculations in his head with ease his whole life. Papa Ji never missed an opportunity to share with others the virtues that he lived by: - Always work hard, hard work doesn't kill you - Always tell the truth - Be fair, don't cheat - Always have faith & gratitude It is with gratitude to his legacy that the Sharma family established this bursary in loving memory of Papa Ji to further the values he passed to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
