Award Detail Information
Name | Joan Switzer Memorial Health Care Assistant Certificate Bursary |
---|---|
Description | Joan (Wieduwilt) Switzer was always passionate about school, but was forced to leave before graduating due to her family’s financial situation. She returned to school as an adult and a single mother of 3 in order to provide a better life for her children. She had always been a friendly, outgoing, compassionate and hard- working woman. She found her true calling in life as a Long-Term Care and Support worker after completion of that program at the College of New Caledonia. She had a talent for sparking up conversations with people of all ages and circumstance, expressing care and concern for them and making them feel important and valued. Her humour and laughter encouraged smiles and enriched the lives of the clients whom she cared for at Simon Fraser Lodge in Prince George. She could always be counted on as a supportive co-worker and employee. She was creative, playful and enthusiastic when it came to entertaining residents and engaging them in activities in her role at the Lodge at Broadmead in Victoria. Her genuine concern and compassion for all people will be remembered as one of her many positive contributions she has made to society. |
